The Saar or Saar Area or Saar Protectorate or Saar Region was a French-German borderland territory twice temporarily made a protectorate state and now the Federal German Area State (Flächenland) of Saarland.

As a border region contested between France and Germany, the Saar has a somewhat complicated philatelic history.
