Wrote: There were only two known examples of the 1925 “Black Honduras” air mail
stamp [reproduced on both Nicaragua C716 (1976) and Honduras C1075
(2000)]. The scan on the right is the stamp — now called the “Santa Fe
Black Honduras”-- on both, and in fact, is now the only one in existence; the
other stamp, the “Ustaritz Black Honduras” was lost
in NYC almost 10 years ago and presumed destroyed. Cherrystone Auctions
sold the C12 rarity— stain and part gum notwithstanding, on January 11 2012 for
$149,500.

Wrote: Honduras, on November 4, 2023 issued a setenant pair
to commemorate two philatelic organization anniversaries. One, to note the
50th Anniversary of the Honduras Philatelic Federation is not a SoS, but the other is a SoS, noting the Platinum Jubilee/75th Anniversary of the
Puerto Rico Philatelic Society (in 2022) and the 150th Anniversary of the
First Stamps of Puerto Rico. Reproduced is one, Puerto Rico #3, all created by
adding to stamps of Cuba, an unusual overprint representing the
initials of the treasurer of the island. Why
they came about to be issued is an interesting story.
Prior
to 1873, the same stamps were used in Cuba and Puerto Rico, but due to
economic differences, the currency of Puerto Rico became worth more
than that of Cuba, and stamps were illegally bought in Cuba to use in
Puerto Rico, creating a revenue loss to the post office. To end
these practices, it was decided to issue stamps,
differing only with the overprint, to be used just in Puerto Rico. Various
values with a variety of overprints were used until mid 1877 when the first stamps inscribed "
PTo RICO" were issued.
