Kazakhstan is a transcontinental country located in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Ranked as the ninth largest country in the world, it is also the world's largest landlocked country; its territory of 2,727,300 km² is greater than Western Europe. Kazakhstan is one of the six independent Turkic States. It is neighbored clockwise from the north by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and also borders on a significant part of the Caspian Sea.

Lou wrote: The sheetlet of this issue has a very unusual layout-- there is only a partial "25" in the lower left. I  wondered if this was cut from a larger sheet with 20 stamps and a complete numeral, but  two dealers are showing the same sheet, so probably not.

An interesting fact about Kazakhstan #1 which I did not note in previous SoS issues is that "KAZAKHSTAN" in English on the right side of the "Golden Warrior" is mis-spelled without the "K".

This was found right after the stamps were issued, but a correct printing was never made and the stamps were continued to be sold.
